Our wellsite monitoring solution (WMS) augments existing wellsite sensors with smart, hazardous area certified wireless functionality to improve operational safety and provide highly accurate data.

Wellsite monitoring applications:

Augment existing sensors with hazardous area certified smart, wireless functionality
Wellsite monitoring solutions (WMS) removes the need for cabled sensors during well intervention operations, directly improving on-site safety and the efficiency of your wellsite. WMS makes existing wellsite sensors wireless and smart by utilising proven and certified sensors augmented to improve safety and create operational efficiencies in hazardous areas.

Improved wellsite safety
Originally developed in conjunction with a major oil and gas service company to remove trip hazards, decrease rig up time and reduce costs during wireline operations – WMS delivers improved wellsite safety and efficiency across a broad range of wellsite applications.

    No need for IECEx recertification
Our modular, globally hazardous area certified wireless system integrates with almost any type of third party Ex rated sensor, without the need for IECEx recertification.

Leveraging data capture and processing capabilities with IoT
As well as improving site safety and driving efficiencies, our wireless monitoring solution provides new opportunities to measure, control and improve wellsite processes using Internet of Things (IoT) style data capture and recording time/date stamped sensor data for subsequent analysis, as well as providing greater visibility of wellsite operations to exploration and production (E&P) operators.

Global hazardous area certification offers full confidence to operators
Globally certified hazardous area technology eliminates the need for cables. The removed cost of replacement cables quickly returns the investment for WMS systems. And with RF-safe status, WMS can be used around all commercially available electric detonators.

    Keep the sensors you trust
Augment with WMS to gain wireless, digital logging, data to desk, data to cloud, plug and play benefits that continue to add value year on year. Our sensors can even be retrofit during routine downtime to minimise disruption to operations.

As low as reasonably practicable (ALARP) risk mitigation
The WMS system has a tangible payback period, clearly increases safety, and was requested, co-developed and adopted by a top tier global service company. Addressing risk reduction is now

    How does WMS work?

WMS uses a battery powered wireless module that logs data while simultaneously transferring data to a range of displays, from digital handheld units, to local networks and analogue gauges.

Our ATEX, IECEx and North American Hazloc approved wireless sensor systems can be used in any application with a monitoring requirement, such as; pressure, load, level, flow, torque, stroke counters and a variety of other measurements.

The dual channel wireless setup ensures connectivity at all times and eliminates any need for expensive replacement cables.

    WMS Wireline

A versatile wireless solution for line tension monitoring during wireline operations.
WMS-wireline can be fitted at the top or bottom sheave, making it a highly accurate and versatile solution for monitoring line tension during wireline operations. Strainstall’s wireless, sheave located sensors offer increased accuracy compared to running line tension monitors.

No changes to existing sheave arrangements makes WMS cost-effective to install and Strainstall can supply any tension rating from less than 1,000 to over 100,000 pounds.

Strategic case for wireless monitoring technology:

    • A global service provider spent over $325,000 USD purchasing replacement cables in previous years
    • Our solution eliminates the need to replace cables, reducing the total cost of ownership

    WMS-wireline features:

    • Wireless
    • Fit to top or bottom sheave with no adjustment to existing sheave arrangement
    • Increased accuracy compared to running line monitors
    • Any tension rating available

    WMS Sickline

Our wireless sensors eliminate the need to run a hydraulic hose to the unit, simplifying operations and removing the cost of cable replacement due to damage.
Designed to withstand the harsh working environments of slickline operations, WMS is built from lightweight, high tensile, aerospace grade, anodised aluminium and offers a simple retrofit solution.

    Highly accurate load monitoring
Use WMS-slickline at the hay pulley to accurately show small downhole weight changes. By inputting a K-factor WMS can also provide cable angle compensation and indicate actual downhole weight change in real-time.

Data displayed to a zone 1 hand held, battery powered display or analogue gauge. Available for any capacity including 1,000 to 10,000 pounds.

    WMS Pressure Monitoring

Improve accuracy and reduce non-productive time (NPT) with our wireless mud pump pressure sensors.
WMS-pressure monitoring replaces existing mud pump pressure sensors to provide data wirelessly to the rig and measurement-while-drilling (MWD) unit.

High frequency sampling, currently up to 400Hz, ensures accurate MWD decode.

    Other Wellsite Monitoring Applications

By modularising the wireless aspects of a complete wellsite monitoring system, we have created a wireless measurement system that can be integrated with an extremely wide range of measurement products without the need to repeat the hazardous area certification process for each application. The result is that WMS can be applied to any rig sensor making the scope of applications virtually limitless.

    Future applications:

Monitor line tension, pump pressure and pressure at the bottom hole assembly with highly accurate wireless sensors.
Blow out preventers are of critical importance to both crew safety and operational safety and the accuracy of information related to downhole pressure and the flow of oil and gas is vital for minimising the risk of catastrophic blowouts.
Monitor torque to ensure connection is made efficiently using WMS wireless sensors.
Improve accuracy and reliability of tension readings throughout umbilical tension monitoring operations.
